8/17 Recap: Indians 7 – Athletics 1

Player of the Game

Ubaldo Jimenez had amazing stuff as the starting pitcher for the Indians tonight, striking out eight in 5.2 innings while allowing just a single hit and run. The hit was to his final batter of the game as he went the first five innings pitching no-hit baseball. With the win he finished the game with a POG score of 6.61.

Feathers Up

Returning to the land of the living, Asdrubal Cabrera broke an 0-20 streak with an RBI single in the first inning. It was his first RBI in his last seven games as well and may have been a breakthrough of sorts after he ended last night's game with a line drive double play.

The third time was the charm for Drew Stubbs, who was caught out on the base paths the first two times he reached base. After a single in the ninth inning, he scored from second base one a Nick Swisher single, finally beating right fielder Josh Reddick, who threw him out at third earlier in the game. The score was part of a three run ninth that put the game out of reach.

The Tigers beat the Royals today, making this an important game for the Indians to win to maintain their position in the AL Central. They came through and will have a chance to win the series tomorrow afternoon.

Feathers Down

Ubaldo Jimenez was literally unhittable tonight, but was still unable to go deep into the game due to five walks and a hit batter. To compound things, each inning he allowed a base runner, he allowed two. Jimenez hit 100 pitches in just the sixth inning when he finally allowed his first hit of the night.

Final Score: Cleveland Indians 7 – Oakland Athletics of Oakland (Someday to be San Jose) 1
